OptiBiotix shortlisted in prestigious FDF Awards
Market leaders in microbiome modulating compounds for use in functional foods and nutraceuticals, OptiBiotix Health has been shortlisted in the diet and health category of the 2021 Food and Drink Federation (FDF) awards.
The annual FDF Awards celebrate the very best in food and drink and are fast becoming the industry benchmark of excellence for innovation, competitiveness, and talent.
OptiBiotix’s GoFigure flapjacks stood out from the crowd amongst tough competition to make it as a finalist. Formulated to tackle the current obesity epidemic, the blueberry & raspberry flapjacks offer a healthy and delicious approach to snacking that’s packed with fibre to promote a diverse microbiome and support a healthy metabolism. The flapjacks utilise OptiBiotix’s multi award-winning SlimBiome® ingredient to help consumers achieve their weight management goals by increasing satiety and reducing food cravings backed by science.
Steven Riley, Director of Marketing & Consumer Sales said: “It is fantastic that we made it onto the shortlist. I would like to congratulate the team for their hard work in creating a solution that helps bridge the gap between functionally and great taste.
“The blueberry & raspberry flavour was launched on the OptiBiotix e-commerce store (OptiBiotix.online) in May 2020, during the time of the UK’s first national lockdown. When UK consumers realised that restrictions were unlikely to lift, demand for healthier snacks began to surge as empty calorie cupboard fillers didn’t cater to the growing number of health-conscious consumers. We knew from previous market research that there was a demand for fruit and berry flavours, and collaborating with our supply chain, we were able to achieve an end result that had a superb balance of flavour to nutrition, especially at only 90kcal per bar. With GoFigure’s increasing popularity in the UK consumer market, we believed this was the best time to launch a new flavour. The flapjacks contain naturally occurring sugars and are high in fibre to make it easier to snack healthily at home or on-the-go, no matter what mood they are in.
“Feedback since we launched this flavour has been positive – with many saying it’s the perfect lunchtime treat due to its sweet fruity flavour.”
GoFigure was developed as an easy way for consumers to take control of their weight and snacking by promoting satiety and curbing food cravings. By utilising SlimBiome®, which was developed by world experts in hunger control, the microbiome modulator helps keep consumers feeling fuller for longer, maintains blood sugar levels, along with supporting a diverse microbiome to aid gut health. This functional ingredient also helps burn calories by promoting a healthy metabolism, and is suitable for wide ranging uses including snack bars, meal replacement shakes, dairy and bakery products to add functionality and increase fibre content to the end product.
“Yet, it’s the science behind the product that makes GoFigure flapjacks so unique,” Riley points out. “Not only does our product meet the current demand for a vegan-friendly healthy snack, but it also delivers scientifically supported health benefits too. A true food technology innovation that delivers on our ethos; better science equals better health.”
Following consumer research and human intervention studies involving GoFigure’s 2-2-GO meal plan over a period of 3 weeks, OptiBiotix found that individuals who ingested the product experienced a statistically significant reduction in savoury and sweet food cravings, coupled to substantial mood improvement. This means the flapjacks deliver a natural energy boost in conjunction to its healthier positioning.
